OK, I won't labour the point, but my original post was simply a light-hearted comment on the ratio of the number of replies to the number of views. Nothing more and nothing less. I certainly didn't mean to cause offence to anyone here by such a post.
I know how to cause offence, if I really have to, but I use that knowledge prudently.
However, I still say that a few of you could do with lightening up..........

The answer to your question is that there are a lot of people like me who don't know the answers so can't reply. We are learning and read posts so that we can improve.

Lucia no matter how heavy weight you think you are in the industry, nobody can know everything, there are things to learn everyday, and somebody else always knows things that others dont.
instead of continuing a stupid slagging match, why not just stick to the electrical stuff. If you can help people then well done!! stick to it!

One answer to your question (possibly) is that there are a fair few members who don't know the answers to some questions but find the topics interesting all the same. Certainly some new posters will say that they post only to ask a question and not to offer advice but that they still read alot of the threads.
I read alot of the threads but there's plenty I can't answer and if the questions have already been answered I try not to add the same advice again.
Think I must be a lurker then...

Sorry to find that you think there are humourless buttoned up misery guts here. There are a quite a few happy souls here, but that is often blurred by the desperately un-happy few (or 1 anyway). You know what they say about 1 bad apple, but i hope its not true
Should you boooger orf back to screwfix? I don't know, your choice
but should you decide to stay, try clicking the preview before posting and sort out where the stuff in brackets goes for your italics/bold/underline etc. You'll get it sharpish, no doubt. 
Whilst yr here though, would you mind chucking some light on wtf is going on with the goonfix forum? I got bored with it quite quickly as it just seems (dunno for certain) that there are perhaps about 2 or 3 regulars there who probably have about 20-30 different login-ins between them. Does that seem about right?
made me laugh for a while when someone forget to change their login and gives the game away, but got a bit tedious trying to figure out who was who and why they bother sometimes. Who was Maurice gogg and hows his house/tent/wife nowadays? Made me laugh the number of serious replies he drew out at the beginning
Oh, one more if you don't mind-
Do you have any particular point of view or strong feelings about the installation of recessed downlights or lawnmowing?

I don't really know the ins n outs of it all, but it appears as though there has been some migration from another forum over a period of time. Some of the posters here must already know Lucia and have previous experience of him/her and have formed their own opinion.
I used the screwfix forum for a while, but it was about 5% electrical questions and the rest was just barracking and oneupmanship by the sparks and non spark knowalls who each want to be seen to be sat at the top of the pile. I imagine the aggression and animosity comes from that and the sarcasm and unpleasantness that surrounds it. It quickly escalates into a dummy spitting contest
I wonder if any DIYers actually visit that site anymore?

Nope dear, sorry i'm not. The 'bongos' just comes from the first part of my email address but this is the only forum where I have posted.
Sorry about that. It was indeed an observation which I didn't read properly and thought that as there had been plenty of abuse in between I would stick my 2p worth in (without the abuse - i'm happy like mikhailfaradayski).
One thing I've noticed, from my own observation Google seems to index this forum a lot more than it does Screwfix, so this board comes up before Screwfix in a lot of cases. This means much higher view ratings from non-members who come for an answer to their Google query but don't stick around to post?

I've just been reading a few other threads on this forum, and I've found that unpleasantness abounds everywhere here - as with other forums.
So I'm quite relieved to to realise that I'm not actually responsible for introducing that particular disease to this colony.......
If I decide to hang around here - and after all, it's my decision (provided that I try to stick to the forum rules), then some of you insecure types might come to realise that I'm not such a 'threat'.........
