hi there,

does anyone know what the regs/allowances are to chase out a party wall to get a basin waste and tap pipework in? the run's about 1metre. Im pretty sure its brick.
It would also be really helpfull for me to know the answer to the same question but for other types of walls that can pose problems when installing basins/urinals and they want the pipes hidden.

cheers again

You shouldn’t chase any wall out to hide pipework & certainly not a structural/party wall; it would have to be pretty deep to hide a basin waste pipe & if it’s a cavity wall you’d be removing around 2/3 of it & could even end up in the cavity; I would not advise it at all! The recognised method of hiding pipe work is to either box it in or build a false wall out from the original but the waste runs still have to comply with Building Regs.
