Excuse my naivety, I wonder if anyone can help.

I have a ceiling mounted extrator fan in the bathroom which is operated by a draw string (separate and unrelated to the lightswitch).

The fan no longer works and I was wondering if it is easy enough to replace myself with little or no electrical experience or best to get someone in.

I assume that it's as simple as removing the existing fan, unwiring it and simply rewiring the new one?

Or am I wrong?

Thanks in advance.

its simple sounding job,but its a minefield of regulations.

in all honesty,by the time you paid your fees to LABC it will probably be cheaper to use a sparks.

thats all we can give you at the moment as you havent provided enough info on the fan location, bonding etc...

i am only guessing that you may have a fan in a dangerous location in your bathroom, you may, however not have and it will then be a straight forward replacement

Even if it's in a special location, as long as it is a replacement, there is no need to notify.

Thanks for the above responses.

It is only a replacement. It is ceiling mounted and turned on/off by a draw string that is also located in the bathroom.

Is it as simple as removing the existing fan and rewiring a new one?

Yeah, simple job (as long as the new one is the same size) :)

... well as long as you remember to isolate it first as well
