I am in the process of converting a bathroom to a study. Accordingly I want to remove the 'pull cord' light switch to a traditional wall mounted switch.

My problem is that the 'pull cord' switch has two sheathed wires coming into it. The first of these is a red (live) black and earth wire. The second cable is a red (not live) blue and earth wire.

My question is which wires go where in the new switch I want to fit, which in reality only has fixings for a live and netral?

I presume your pull switch had com, L1 & L2 connections with the 2 reds connected to common & L1or L2 & the black & blue wires connected together. If this is the case you need to crimp connect them together(black & blue) after you have removed the switch & connect a new cable to the 2 reds sleeving the black core with red sleeving(again presuming you do not have 2 reds & earth cable) & connect this to your new switch, again sleeving the black core with red sleeve. If your old switch was not connected in this manner then tell us how it was connected. Also what type are the existing cables(describe them please)?
