Hi Guys

I have been victim to a faulty pull cord switch in my bathroom and have now found myself trying to replace it.

The pull cord in my bathroom controls both the light and the extractor fan, they both switch on together and switch off together with a click of the cord.

I went and purchased a Ceiling pull cord switch 10a x 2way from screw fix.

However I'm not sure I have the right fixing...

I have 5 cables

1 x earth
2 x red cables
2 x black (with red sheathing)

The cord switch I have purchased has 4 terminals.

L1
L2
Common
Earth.

I understand I need to earth to earth, but I am unsure on the 4 other wires?

Any ideas guys?

Likely

L1 = black (with red sheathing)
L2 = Not Used
Common = red cables
Earth. = earth

However that seems rather odd and I wonder if original switch was a double pole and although it has both light and fan they are not electrical connected?

How about some pictures old and new switch?

Ah. The old switch is a double pole switch; not a two-way one.

Do you have a fan isolator switch anywhere?

No. I would advise you to get a double pole switch otherwise the circuits will be connected together.

Get one without a neon; that was wrong.

You could connect just the light to the new switch for the time being.

It would seem wrong switch with a double pole switch then it can be used with two independent electrical circuits. It is possible that fan runs from ring final and light from lighting so the two must remain separate.

I am hoping you make a note of which red was associated with which black before you disconnect anything!..
