Bathroom fitted 2 years ago.

Fan never was right so they replaced it 6 months later.

Just a regular 240v extractor on the ceiling that has a humidity sensor.

Anyway it's gone bang today.

I had a fairly long fairly hot shower. It has condensed inside the housing and directly shorted the live and neutral.

I've never liked the look of the thing.

It was an electrician that installed it but I can't work out how they are allowed as it seems so obvious to me it could happen?

Is it a fairly common occurrence?

There was an extractor there before and they simply replaced like for like.

I'll be ripping it out tomorrow and sticking a 12v one in instead.....

Just seems bizzare to me it's so open bar the cover.

That will solve nothing.

If enough water is collecting in it to short out the terminals it's been installed incorrectly.
The usual is where a vertical uninsulated duct has been used and there is no condensation trap.

It wasn't a puddle in the fan just a coating of condensation on the terminals if that makes sense?

I doubt that a small amount of condensation would do this.

More likely a cheap fan failing
