I have a portable fan with a run time button, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 hours. The ceiling fan has similar, but a bathroom fan?

The other reason I want it is because for 4 months in the summer when I go in for a shower I don't need to even turn the light on as it's light enough. But currently I'm forced to turn the light on to get the fan to work.

A relay to trigger the timer perhaps (if the shower is electric) or even a humidistat?
Yes valid thoughts.
Replacing/renewing the fan might still be the simplest option.
But methinks the contributors have demonstrate to the OP that there maybe many solutions.

I was wondering if there's access to a hot water pipe supplying a mixer.

Or if it's a pumped shower could an isolator for that be installed which also works the fan? Wouldn't take too long to develop the habit of using it.

Easy way, would be a pipe stat, on the hot supply pipe to the bathroom. Someone runs HW, that triggers the stat, stat triggers the fan. Timer counts down, from when the pipe stat cools down.

That's what I've done - got the stat after where the shower & basin split, so that a bit of handwashing doesn't trigger the fan.
