Hi,

I want to tile the bathroom floor. Currently there are some very uneven floorboards (which are not very well supported in places due to bad notching).

I could just lay the ply on top, but is there any reason not to rip the boards up first and just lay the ply on the joists? It would avoid creating a step up into the bathroom from the hall.

no, you can remove the boards and then do what you propose but will this ply be laid across the whole floor in a bathroom free of all fixture and skirtings?

OK, then fix the ply and install your finished floor, and then sit the pedestal or vanity and WC on top of the finished flooring.
