Hi all

I have the following colour stains on the ground floor ceiling. It is directly below the bathroom which contains a tub, toilet and small wash basin.

Wanted to ask.

- How can I find out which appliance is leaking without having to pull up floor boards
- The patches appear far apart does this mean there is more than one leak?
- Why does it appear the colour it is ?

Thanks

You should visually inspect all joints on bath / basin / WC , particularly on the waste pipework. Bath panel removal required for access . also check the condition of silicone seal around bath / shower if you have one. If you can't find any leak on visible pipework you MAY have to start lifting floor boards. Water will follow the path if least resistance and where you see stains on ceilings is not necessarily directly below the leak. The brownish colour of the stain is usual on plaster / painted surfaces and clean water can cause it ,does not have to be foul.

Is it a flat ? and your upper neighbours dont give a feck :)
