Have you changed the lamp recently or is this an old one?
May be the old one is on the way out or the new one is duff.
Other possibility is loose connection in the ceiling fitting. Be sure to isolate before checking.

No this is the same lamp/holder used for more than 5years.

One of the failure modes of LED lamps.

I also tried changing the bulb and get same issue.
Might try a non LED bulb to see if the issue exists on that

I think the connector above the cladding may have become lose

I assumed, rightly or wrongly, they were coming from the lamp fitting, hence my suggestion a possible loose connection causing arcing.

Me too. But I rather Hoped that the OP would tell us. Unless you happen to be in his bathroom at the moment?
 
Its from the holder (jst above the cladding)
i think ill have to take one of the pannels down to see whats going on above. hopefully its not some rat or something nibbling away at the wire :S
