Hi,

We have a problem with halogen lights. We have a number set into our ceiling, however they keep blinking. I've been told by our letting agency that the bulbs have a 'box' above them (due to regulations?) which doesnt allow the heat to escape, causing them to blink. Therefore, it can't be fixed.

Does this sound right? I can't believe theres no solution!

Thanks in advance...

When you say blinking - do you mean they stay on for a few minutes, go of for a few minutes....

This is typical of the transformer becoming too hot and shutting it self off. It then cools and turns back on again.

This occurs when the transformer is too close to the lamp (heat), or when there is lots of insulation piled around the transformer.

It sounds like your lights have a fireproof box or hood over them, and the transformer may well be inside this same box/hood, and this is causing them to overheat.

Either way, they shouldn't have fitted downlighters unless they could be sure they'd work right in the environment.

Is there another dwelling above yours?
