Hello, Just want to check before I buy some bathroom downlights.
ceiling height 2450, Light to be located 50mm away from shower tray. As this is zone 3 or outside zones does the downlight need to be a bathroom type or just LV or is it best to fit a zone 2 light because of moisture?

What material is ceiling? Also before you get jumped all over, any work in bathrooms or kitchens falls under "PART P" special locations, Which means you have to notify your local council building control and pay them obscene ammounts of money for sweet *a

The ceiling is fire rated plasterboard, the pink stuff. So we will require a fire rated light or hood. Would prefer to use fire rated light.

There is no longer a Zone 3:

"Bathroom type" ( ) and Low Voltage are not mutually exclusive. The IEC definitions of voltage bands are:
  • Extra Low Voltage: AC below 50V and DC below 120V
  • Low Voltage: 50 - 1000V AC or 120 - 1500V DC
  • Medium voltage: 1kV - 35kV
  • High voltage: 35kV - 230kV
  • Extra-high voltage: >230kV

Does it have to be?

Not necessarily - is this in a flat, HMO, building with >2 storeys?

Would prefer to use fire rated light.
Don't forget problems with interstitial condensation if you're cutting holes in a bathroom ceiling.

Thanks have saved the Zone info. The ceiling has been overboarded with fire rated board as we required this for a loft conversion. The lights I want to purchase are IP65, fire rated adjustable or fixed downlights.(Homebase)
