Are these safe to use? I much prefer the Dewalt multitool to the Makita and all my stuff/batts are Makita so i was thinking of using one with an adaptor. Does anyone know the odds of breaking a battery doing that overdraining etc?

Are your batteries the more modern Makstar pattern? They have a star moulded into the top cover. If so, the battery has protection circuitry built in to prevent overheating and over draining. All "B" type batteries with the LED power display at the back in corporate this circuitry. AFAIK third party batteries lack this feature and can be drained completely (at which point the Makita charger won't charge them as it sees such batteries as potentially defective/dangerous)
