We had a new back boiler fitted along with Thermostats on all the radiators last year. All was well until this week, when although my Thermostat was set to off, my Bedroom radiator was boiling hot. I double checked it and left it for a bit(never know who been playing with it out of the two kids !!!!), and it was still hot. All the other radiators work fine and get hot and cold as they should do, and the hot water is fine too. the system is a bit noisy so it has probably got a bit of air in it, but don't know if the two would be related. So in the mean time so i can sleep without sweating i shut the valve at the other end of the radiator. This done it soon cooled down, but it still seems a little bit warmer than it ought to be. my initial instinct would be that its just a faulty Thermostatic valve and i should just rip it out and replace it. Just one problem! How?! Looking at it it looks like its just a case of undoing two nut and off it comes, but what about the contents of the radiator?

Not sure, i cant see a way to get it apart and gewt to the mechanics of it. dont wanna pull too hard in case i pullit off the pipe. Any ideas how to get the plastic cap off and check it? They are HOneywell Stats.

So what am i checking for once i get the plastyic cap off? like you said they have got a collar on them at the base.

while u got it of , check that small plunger on top centre of valve pushes down and returns up.

Why is the rad getting hot when the heating is turned off :?:

Perhaps its been installed as a by-pass

perhaps the diverter valve is stuck and your getting creep

Perhaps the return has been connected in the wrong place and you're getting reverse circulation in the hot water mode

is it a fully pumped or gravity hot water

well it aint the top bit. I exchanged the control unit, with the one from the bathroom, and the bathroom is still nice and cool but the bedroom is turning into a sauna again! Is there any adjustment to be made on the valve or are they just factory set?

wondered how long it would take you

Don't know why I bother, no-one answer the questions anyway.

Is the heating on or off, if off leave the bloody thermostatic rad valve alone and play with the parts that wrong
