Did Baxi not mention the pilot anti-spillage assistance regime, then?
So, Baxi said yes and no at the same time 
I can't say i believed that one either but since I aren't a gas installer of any kind I did what anyone in my position should do and that is err on the side of caution/ask for a second opinion. My mate isn't 'on the internet' and always takes trade advice at face value, so any advice I pass on, from whatever source has to be unequivocal. I've already been blamed for recommending a certain type of light bulb that blew a few months later and an MSF radio controlled alarm clock that didn't put the hour on properly.
You've got a couple of lifetimes worth of Gas experience telling you the same thing.
