are these a good boiler? looking at buying one so would appreciate people's opinion on them, please.

also, how much do they RRP for?

thanks in advance,

kins.

The Which report thought they were good but they dont seem to be the favourite of many boiler engineers.

We are more likely to suggest a Vaillant or Viessmann.

thanks, tony.

is there a boiler on the market as good as the baxi which you could get on a budget of £600 (fittings included)?

As per Tony, buy german if poss. Having said that, I have attended the Baxi training on this appliance and fitted a couple, all OK so far. The Potterton HeatMax is effectively a 'contract' (i.e cheaper) DuoTec in disguise, with minor internal changes. could be a low as £560 + VAT, so still not under £600.

Now, that was the good news....

Who is gonna be fitting it, registering it with the manufacturer and to GasSafe?. Even if it was a 24kw Combi out and one of these in, I would still be looking at say, another £550 to include a chemical flush, pipe & fittings, condensate connection, magnetic filter, flue etc. It really is not at all like unplugging the toaster and popping the kettle back in to the socket. but, many customers seem oblivious to this...

cheers dh. that's very useful.

couple more question then, if you don't mind.

would you suggest speaking to my GS engineer first and getting his opinion on a good boiler that would be less than £500 to fit, or is it probably going to be that to fit, regardless of the boiler type?

also, what other good boilers are there in the £600 range?

None that I would be happy to put my name to. Ideal Logic at a push, but tradetalk is mixed about these....

RGI's do understand that budget is crucial to everyone at the mo, and that may well sway one towards a solution that may prove OK short term, but I want customers who have me back every year to service it ('cos I recomended it!)

Like many things in life YGWYPF. Think of a bottle of £2.99 plonk, against a £9.99 bottle of wine. Both have a bottle, cork/screwcap, label, storage transort, duty, profit etc. It comes down to the contents.

Installed price is only the beginning, modern boilers need expensive routine maintenance. German regulations seem to be quite strict and a regular service is required by law. So more expensive boilers, like the Viessmann Vitodens 2000W, advertise a 5-year service interval as part of the cost savings. With their Lambda control, these are also much more efficient than standard A-grade boilers and don't require mixture adjustment. I wonder how that affects total costs.
