At last its let me log in on a new topic........! Been trying 5 1/4 hours..!

Today I helped my Dad, with a spot of DIY. We took off a radiator so that he could wallpaper behind, I turned off the pump via the valves and tightened the pump not as there was a small leak(which ceased once tightened), added more inhibitor, untied the ball valve in the tank and refilled and bled the rads.

Trying to reignite the boiler, the pilot light comes on, when turning the themostat knob up to full position, the boiler gurgles and cuts out..?

There is no air in any of the radiators, I can only assume that this problem originates from the pump ? If it does what should I do ?

Your thoughts are much required, TIA

Air in boiler, are pump valves fully open, have you bled the pump.
Try getting the water to circulate until gurgling stops by turning the boiler thermostat off and running on heating and hot water.

What do you mean by 'running on hot water and heating'...? The boiler is not igniting beyond the pilot now. I understand what your saying about bleeding the pump which I did, and to check the valves, I thought at the time one of the pump valves appeared wobbly.

If the pilot light is coming on, the system is happy that conditions are right. There are two possibilities

1) it's cutting out because the heat isn't getting out of the heat exchanger- pump, blockage or whatever

2) gas flow restriction - there is enough for the pilot, but when the main valve is open, there isn't enough gas to satisfy the requirement

the gas supply has not been touched or tampered with in any way.

You might say that, but ...

A friend asked me to have a look at his CH a few months ago - the pilot was coming on, but the boiler died when there was a demand for heat

one of his kids had dropped a satchel or something which had all but turned the gas off at the meter ... worth checking

No, the gas is full on, anyone have any other ideas......?

TIA

I have now changed the pump valves & the pump, bled the pump, air vent and all the rads. Heating and water are fine, but the boiler is still making some slight tapping and coughing noises, Is there anything else I can do ? Thank You.
