Dear All,

Firstly I think the advice available here is excellent and it's a real help to someone like me who is not in the trade but likes to take on more than your average DIY project. Thanks. :D

Quick sanity check: A ceiling must be cut away where a supporting beam is to be added, so the joists for the floor above sit directly onto it. That is necessary, right ?

Regards,

Paul.

Yes, just in case whatever is between joists and beam eventually crumbles away and the leaves a void. The floor/ wall above could then move.

Thanks, Chappers.

I'm using a 178 x 102 x 19 universal beam. I'm guessing that's H x W (mm) x KG/m and it's a standard I section. How will I attach the board when I box it in ?

Regards,

P.J.
