Bed for new hearth?

I am about to pick up a new granite hearth - 90cmx22cmx3cm
This is for decorative purposes - small thin bedrrom style fire surrond to be installed on top.

This is going onto mainly floorboards - a small section of concrete - 8cmx40cm where im assuming the old hearth was (no hearth when I arrive only cheap laminate). What do I use as a bed? I have loads of plaster binding left over, can I use this? Am I aiming to have as thin a bed as I can get?

Very little chance of a lump of granite moving whatever you use.

my main worry was the carpet guy fitting the capet round it may move the granite

Fitter will only tuck down carpet against it, no reason it should move.

You can screw a piece of backer board to the floorboards to the correct size, then use a weak mortar mix applied with a notched spreader.
