iam doing an old bungalow up , and the bed room floor has just been laid straight on to the soil ,i have dug it up do i put hard fill in to bring the level ,up then a bit of sand what plastic do i use ,and can i use concrete or screed thanks.

to do the job properly you will need to dig out approximately 375-400mm of material, down from finished floor level.

you will then need to put back;

100mm of compacted sulphate free m.o.t. type1 hard core or similar granular material.

15-25mm sand blinding.

1200gauge polythene d.p.m.

100mm polystyrene 'jablite' or 80mm 'cellotex' or 'kingspan' equivalent flooring insulation. plus 25mm perimeter insulation (external walls only).

another layer of polythene (dependant on the floor insulation).

100mm concrete slab in a single pour.

75mm trowelled screed.
