Hi everyone,
Doing up a 1920s house and just getting the last bedroom reskimmed. I've pulled down the ceiling before reboarding and found that the joists are bent.
What's the best way forward?. The roof is held up by two big timbers going from gable to gable so I'm thinking of putting 9*2 joists up so I can use at least half the attic as another room/storage space. Going for 9*2 so I can use the existing insulation. The 9*2 joists would rest on the outer wall and an internal wall which splits the two bedrooms.
I'm a bit concerned about the outer wall as I'd have to cut the end of joists at the same angle as the roof to fit them onto the inner brick wall. Is this ok? The existing 3*1 joists are cut like this and tied to the roof trusses.
Any advice would be gratefully received. I'd like to a full attic conversion but haven't got the money at the minute.
Or should I just batten up the existing boards and pack to level?
Thanks very much
