Hi,

Complete newbie here.

I need to remove a wash basin in my bathroom, however I am unsure on how to disconnect the flexi pipes. As you can see from the image the nut is below the screw valve, and not sure if I simply unscrew the flexi pipe from the top (after turning the supply off on each pipe of course).

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Paul

You will need to isolate the water, at the source, rather than the isolators in your photo - then you can disconnect the nut below. Expect some water draining back from the flexibles, but if you also turn those isolators off too, there will be a bit less water.

Once the flexibles, are removed from the tap, they, plus their isolators, back on the pipes, isolators off, and restore your water supplies.

You cant disconnect the flexi at the top (after the isolator), the only way to take them off is to do so by loosening the bottom nut.

You would need to turn off your water (hot & cold) then drain the system at the tap here, then remove. You can purchase end stops (such as these (if your pipe is 15mm)) to temporarily fit over the open pipes whilst you complete your work, allowing you to turn the water back on.

When you unscrew the nut it will remain on the copper pipe, blocked by an olive that will have been compressed onto the pipe. Re-use this when fitting the end stops, don't overtighten.

When re-fitting use a full bore in-line isolator then into a flexi (or copper), allowing you to isolate just the supply at the sink rather than a full drain down in future.

Turn off the vales in the photo, then unscrew the flexis from the taps (not visible in the photo).

Or more specifically: disconnect the waste pipe from the basin, then lift the basin up so you can access the bottom of the taps, and unscrew the flexis from the taps.

Unlikely to be able to unscrew the flexis at the top, at the tap, whilst they remain fixed to the pipes at the bottom.

Thanks everyone. As it happens when I removed the lower shelf I spotted another isolator on each supply, so managed to isolate the supply, run the taps then disconnect the flexi pipes.

All sorted.
