Yes, but that line never hotbused, did it?
Belgium is a bit of a crazy place - 8 million population, 400 registered breweries...
In the late 70s the Dutch police started to use the (old) rear engined VW Microbuses (based on the T2?) as radar speed traps - the radar unit was sat on the back shelf over the engine, and was used with the back window flipped open, while the camera was on the dashboard in the front. You used to see these pulled up on the hard shoulder all over the motorway network, but the one disadvantage they had was that they could only clock cars going in one direction
With typical Belgian ingenuity the Belgians decided that they needed a vehicle which could clock vehicles going in both directions on a motorway as well as having a crew of one. The result was a VW Microbus modified so that the radar set was installed where the front passenger seat had been, but the front of the vehicle was modified so that it was hinged and swung open to allow the radar to "see" vehicles. Needless to say when in use these were parked in the periodic gaps in centre reservation Armco which motorways had back then. That 's a really safe place to work! Only in Belgium...
BTW I love Belgium, especially Vlanderen (Flanders - the bit where they don't speak French, much, but they brew much of the beer)
