If you are utilising any of the old system you need to worry about sediment. If you connecting on to the old system it's worth chucking a cleaner in a month before the new boiler goes in if the old one is still working. That means there is a much better chance of all the muck being flushed out.
If you've got plastic cold pipes and metal hot I wouldn't mind betting you've got durapipe. If the pipe is grey with welded fittings be wary of damaging it. There's not too many merchants keep durapipe fittings on the shelf. It can also go brittle over time.
