Best Car For Newly Qualified Driver

Well, as you may have seen from another thread, eldest son has a car. We need to tax and insure it tomorrow.
It's a Mitsubishi Spacestar Mirage (according to the V5C/2).
The cheapest insurance at the moment is £1785 with RAC (paid monthly) and includes personal accident, courtesy car, breakdown and motor legal.

Got 2 boys. So glad I live near a bus stop! What size engine is that? £1785 insurance is crazy. Being an old man who hardly ever crashes, I pay £200 a year. Need to start saving, my eldest will be wanting a car in 5 years!

The largest quote was 10K, so 1785 is a bargain in comparison!

10k? that is insane. I didn't realise insurance got so expensive for new drivers.

In 1986, I remember asking someone like the AA for a quote, it was over 2K then!
Had to sell the car.....my Grandad's Alfa Romeo

As long as no claims in the first year, it should go down a lot. Laddo's first years insurance £1500 renewal £750.
