Some of the mortar under the tiles on the gabel end is loose ,going to remove it and reinstate ,the old mortar crumbles away quite easily maybe with age or a poor mix? but when I reinstate it what is the best sand and mix...........

3 building sand to 1 cement with half a shovel of sharp sand for strength and to avoid shrinkage.
