We just had our through lounge floor boards sanded stained and varnished and very nice it looks.

However there are 2 small concrete areas where the removed fireplaces used to be.

What would be the best way to decorate or disguise these areas?

One is totally exposed and the other is largely covered up by a hi fi rack

Make them a feature, such as build a little raised platform to cover them and use it to display something.

I did think about that but the one on open display has a radiator behind it
So its not exactly a display area. I was thinking of just painting it white or could I put fake
Floor boards on it?

Try to make it with nice woodwork or something with Plaster of Paris or any other decorative items and better I suggest to go with some interior decorator....

I don't think my suggestion has a good chance of being a success, but if you really want, it's worth a try.

There used to be a product called Scumble on the market, I don't know what it's called now, but it would be available from a decent decorators merchant.

It's comprised of an undercoat, followed by a top coat of a different colour, which imitates the wood finish, by dragging a brush/comb or similar over it. You can also imitate knots etc.
Various types/colours are available and it would take a fair bit of trial and error to get a reasonable match.
Also, a good smooth finish will be required on the concrete surface, which ought to be sealed first with a concrete sealer.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
I am investigating with the floor standing company if they could
Install boards over the concrete ( after reducing the level)
Presumably they would be glued rather than nailed or screwed
