Just wondering if RADICAL servicing has ever been cancelled like it is now, from speaking to my colleagues at work everyones surprised/shocked as its never happened before

Not round my way. Were 10000 behind  , unlikely to be cancelled.

A lot further south than you.

Why has it been cancelled? Much more expensive to get contractors in.

I was told it was national with an idea to temporarily move labour from overstaffed patches to those struggling with keeping on top of the asv program.. Personally I am loving doing flat weeks for the last few months especially on a 4 day week and that is after doing an extra 20k a year for the last 3 years with overtime and radicals.

i dont do any but they would rip my arm off if i offered to do them tomorrow.

On my terminal there are constant requests for someone to cover GA, get 3 or 4 requests a day.

SO what is GA?

They also keep inviting me to meetings. Wander what would happen if I turned up?

Perhaps I'll write back offering to do GA and see what happens? well they keep asking me!

GA is General availability, overnight call out starts at 7pm after standy or shifts finish (depends what rostas are used)

GA is easy money depending on the area and if you like being on call.

in the winter you will also get all the crappy jobs left over from the late man and be called out at 2 in the morning for nothing jobs like a tiny, tiny drip on a rad valve and some old coffin dodger who's radiator needs bleeding.
you still have to work the next day and as you tend to get alot of cylinder and radiator jobs it adversely effects your performance.

the money aint that great tbh, hence no-one wants to do it.

like i say, depends on the area. a guy i knew from newcastle said he was often out for 6 hours a night on GA. i would be unlucky to get 6 hours a week of GA. the key to GA, if you dont want the call out money, is to phone and interrogate the customer before going. i would say roughly 50% of my GA calls are put off until the next day after i phone. the usual cause is office monkeys taking the ****. if the GA call is within 10 minutes of my house i usually just turn up and take the 2 hour overtime for usually 10-20 mins work.

ive never found that to be the case here. most GA calls are vunerable customers with no heat or minor water leaks that they think are major.

These days the office interrogate the customer before sending a call to GA as they have to justify raising every job, it is probably one of the biggest complaints I get.
It is also quite unusual to get anything passed from the late man these days as it still needs to fit GA criteria and cannot just pass over. Over the winter I was probably getting 1 call in every 5 GA's and nothing after midnight but each patch will be different.
GA and standy work is no longer included in performance time so no more issues there.

are ya sure? if ya look at ya bonus sheet and look under availability ga comes into additional hours so will still affect ya performance as it increases the number of hours your available to work

as for the radical work, in our area (sheff north) they are still available and we have been told all the contractors will go before they cancel radicals. cant see it happening personally as patchs around our area are struggling to keep up with mi's and fv's

it should go on the hours you worked then come off other abscences on the other side.

I would have to agree with G-M-G on call-outs are counted in work measure, they shouldn't in my opinion (for whats that worth) but aparently IT can't take it out of the calc.
