I recently ordered a replacement chain for the above, When this arrived I discovered it had 56 links, my original has 44 links. On contacting the seller he tells me that DN 402 saws have different chain lengths, is this correct ?

Seems as thought there are 2, a 10" and a 12"

Yep - it all depends on the length of the chain bar.
Chainsaw dealers will alter your chain and re rivet it again if need be.
