Hi

Have learned the hard way that baby wipes and toilets do not mix.

I have tried plunging it, have had my hand as far into the ubend as it would go, have tried the coat hanger method also. But the blockage seems further up then i can access.

A plumber called this morning and plunged it and left defeated, any last attempt ideas before I contemplate selling my soul (I joke) to pay for the toilet to be removed/or pump blower thingy to be used on it?

Thanks
Claire

You could try one of the "snakes". Available from most diy shops, run it up the "U" bend and wriggle it about as you go.

Will try that first

Ive also been reading that washing up liquid and hot water can un block

What do you think of that?

like you suggest, even the 'flushable' wipes aren't really in my experience. so bear in mind that attempting some methods might end up pushing the blockage further into the system, and possibly block the drain outside.

you can get drain rods at screwfix :)

Does the toilet go straight out the wall into a soil stack?

Is the manhole below blocked or clear?

The soil stack might be blocked which would need to be jetted from the manhole.

Andy

Soil Stack ive no idea what this is im afraid

Ive not even located the manhole yet nor could the plumber this morning?

the soil stack is the large vertical drain pipe on the outside of your property which carries, um, 'soil' from the toilet to the drain.

there will be a manhole somewhere, though it might be on a nearby propoerty. bear in mind that if there is a blockage further down the system in a shared drain (i.e. once your drain is joined up to a drain also fed from other houses), the local water company is responsible for coming and clearing it and won't charge.

Hi

Thanks am going to go find it, although the other toilet in the house is fine, just this one, so wouldnt that suggest it is my toilets pipe to the soil pipe where the blockage is?

What would you suggest? Have called a plumber he couldnt help? Someone else suggested i get the toilet removed? Should i try the toilet pipe things first?

I would have thought that would mean it's a problem with that toilet, or maybe the bit of the soil pipe before it joins up with the output of the other toilet depending on layout. but that's more based on common sense than personal experience (we only have one toilet :) )

Given your previous experience with the plumber not being able to fix it, I'd have thought you need someone who can specifically with drainage (e.g. Andy who posted above......).

Do you know if that's the case in Scotland too? The not charging to clear part.
I assume you would have to prove its blocked down the line first?

no i don't know i'm afraid. they unblocked our manhole no questions asked, though that might have been because there was standing water in a manhole on our property but 'water' rising out of a drain on a neighbours.

So I try the toilet snake pipe things first ?

and next step a friend who is a plumber but cant come to my house for a few days (hence calling someone else) has volunteered to remove said toilet and remove blockage that way, is that wise?

that's beyond my ken i'm afraid. i'm sure an expert will be along soon....
