I have had both, the blow air in first house was quick to warm the house, and whole house was an even temperature, but it cost a fortune to run.

Next house used one Myson radiator, not that good, because when running we were warm, but as soon as it stopped house got cold very quickly.

However both the house insulation, and the boiler technology has moved on. Single glazed windows lost a load of heat in the old days, and blowing the hot air across cold windows did not help. Also the heater be it air or water had just two options, on or off, today heaters modulate, so there is no need to store heat in water filled radiators to bridge the gap where the heater switches on/off.

Also with water heated blown hot air radiators today, they do not simply switch the fan on/off but have a number of speeds, and unlike the air through ducts which one could never really control the temperature room by room, the blown air water heated radiators allow room by room control.

So although hot air heating in the past was expensive and noisy that does not mean it still is, so how does the modern blown hot air system stack up? It is clearly more expensive to install but is it worse or better to radiators using simple convection?

1) Control
2) Cost
3) Noise
