Hmmmm, wasn't sure about whether I was imaginging this, but I did notice a gap between my boiler and the wall (a good few months ago). I have since thought it may have been getting worse and so I checked the flue etc. and it seems the brackets are not securely fastened at the top. I have sawn a fence post and propped the front of the boiler up (well just taken some of the weight really) and am wondering what to do.

It has been like this for some time so I am not massively concerned that it is going to drop off overnight and the props should help but I don't know who to call or how much the job should cost.

I assume it would have to be a corgi registered plumber but will they just be able to put new brackets on or will it be a much bigger job. Any ideas on potential cost. May thanks in advance for any help/advice offered.

Paul

Depends on the wall make up, condition, flue condition and make and model of boiler.

None of which you have provided

In London, expect a good couple of hundred all things being equal.

And its now Gas Safe.... Corgi have nothing to do with it.

It is a significant job to remove a boiler to refit the mounting bracket properly.

You dont say what model but if its older it may be time to consider a new boiler!

Did a WB Junior condenser in camden a few months ago - the jokers had used those silly corkscrew plasterboard fixings and a couple of red rawlplugs  .

Took around two hours, but had to get some frame fixings to get through to something significant in the wall.

Wouldn't say it was a tricky job, but of course you have to recommission the boiler....

It is the two brackets at the top that seem to be loose and I assume the fixings have/are coming away. Is it a plumber I should be contacting as a first port of call and if so do they need to be Gas Safe registered?

Cheers

Yes and Yes.

Either way the boiler has to come off the wall, and then recommissioned when replaced. Hope for your sake things like the gas supply are adequate - if the boiler was installed such that it will fall off, then chances are it won't be the only issue.

Useless21 did you get yr boiler fixed? If you did, how much did you pay?

I have the same issue, i've recently just moved into a new house and had to have a plumber out for a different problem. He had a quick look at my boiler and pointed out that the top right bolt was coming out of the wall and causing the boiler to come away slightly. Obviously he advised that I got it fixed asap and that he would charge £200 to do it, as it's basically the same work as installing a new boiler. I left it for a while as I didn't have a spare £200. But I'm getting a bit jittery now as it's getting progressively worse. The plaster on the wall (in a cupboard in my bedroom), is very old and crumbly-i've had to replaster substantial areas of the surrounding walls, and this is likely the cause of the issue, coupled perhaps with inadequately sized bolts. The boiler works fine and is a Baxicombi 80 eco. Any advice or similar experiences would be welcome, cheers, Jon.

It would usually be about £180-£200 depending on whats involved but as I said before if old then perhaps time for replacement anyway.

The usual cause is not using long enough screws so they are only fiixed into the plaster and not into the brick or the block.

Thanks Tony,

Yes £180-£200 is what I expected to pay. You're also right about screw length or lack of; needs longer bolts for sure... Don't want to fork out for new boiler though-apart from aforementioned possible of mounting everything else seems to be fine-they're not cheap things are they! Got someone coming to inspect it next week anyway due to boiler cover with Scottish power, so they'll soon tell me if anything else its sub par...

Many thanks for taking time to reply, twas helpful:-)
