I recently installed the Nest Thermostat in my house. Since then I have noticed that my boiler seems to Heat for 10-20 mins and then shut off, then rest for 10 mins and then repeat.

This to me seems incredible ineffecient. I cannot tell you if it done this before of whether this is a new thing because of the thermostat.

Not only that but it can take the boiler 5-10 mins just to ignite (constant clicking), I am sure this is due to the age of my boiler though.

The boiler is 30+ years old.

Is this time for a new boiler or then thermostat install gone wrong?

Amazing to have a state of the art thermostat and a 25 year old boiler that you don't bother to get serviced!

Normal for boiler to cycle as its is so old that it does not modulate.

Problem igniting is boiler fault that you should get fixed before it fails completely.

A new boiler could save you about 25% of your gas consumption.

The Nest will save nothing significant compared with a normal £20 wall stat.
