My boiler Ideal mexico super 2 approx 16 years old has started to kettle over the last couple of weeks. I know the kettling is caused by scale build up in the heat exchanger and is introducing air into the system so I plan to drain down the system then refill using fernox F3 run it for a week as per instructions then empty. Then refill with just water, circulate, drain and then refill using Fernox F1 and boiler noise silencer. What I want to know is will this approach eliminate the kettling or would I be better off removing the heat exchanger while the systems drained down and cleaning it manually.

what you propose should be fine.

pumping a different chemical through the heat exchanger alone would be better but would be an awful lot of work.
