Hi
I am have just brought my 1st house and it is a re-possession property. They have turned off all the utilities, water, electrics & gas. I didn't know that it was not a simple case of turning the gas back on but apparently i need to have the boiler re-commissioned? Is this right? Can anyone advise me on who i need to get to do it & how much it will cost? also does it need to be a specialist?
Thanks

Everything should be checked, gas, water, electrics by competent people. Who knows what's happened while they've been turned off.

You don't need the boiler recommissioned, just reconnected. This would be the time to have a full service done too. Repo probably means it has not been serviced for at least 3 years.

Sorry, we don't give quotes here, only tech advice.

Thanks, so i need to get it re-connected & like you say serviced as well does this need to be carried out by a Gas Safe Registered Engieer so i get the right certification?

What would be the best way of finding the right person in my area?

Yes, need gsr. No cert required.
Best way to find one is to ask friends, neighbours, colleagues and so on for recommendations of a small or medium sized local setup. If the boss does not know all the staff by heart, the company is too big. Get one from less than 1 hour/10 miles away.

Have a good look at everything especially in the attic, it is not unknown for the previous owner to have done a little sabotage before leaving for the last time.

You would be surprised at what they can do...

I'd check you still have a gas meter too, went to repair a boiler on a repo and it bad been removed by the supplier
