I had a new diverter valve and pump put into my boiler in February. I discovered 4 months later that the boiler was leaking. When they came out to fix it they said it was too late for it to be the same claim (the diverter valve hadn't been tightened properly and he'd left another pipe uncoupled which I tightened by hand myself).

However, whilst doing this they found that the shield was leaking? So they cut the gas off to my boiler. Is it possible to get a new shield or does the boiler have to be replaced? Also there was soot on the inside of the cover which they said was a clear indication of this yet that was how the cover had looked when the last guy had been out. (I know this because I saw it when I took the cover off).

I'd appreciate any advice thanks.

When I read of the unhelpful attitude and apparently careless work it makes me wonder what the situation is.

You seem to consider that these people have some control over you and your boiler whereas the situation should be that YOU choose whom you employ.

You are asking questions here which any competent engineer attending your property should have been discussing.

If you choose to have a new boiler fitted then their attitude should totally exclude them from the list of quotations. Perhaps they are just angling to have the profitable job of fitting a new boiler? They dont seem to deserve any more business from you.
