But they only have one shower, so a combi would work for them, my other half lives in a LA house it has an electric shower and a 210L unvented for hand and dishwashing, total over kill she would have been far better with a combi

Yup ... fair shout ... all that's needed to be appreciated is that with a combi, if the shower's being used then you don't want to use another hot water tap as that'll affect the shower.

So you'll need to factor in is how you use the hot water, that would need to change a little.

If you stick with an open vent system and F&E in the loft block the outlet when you clean it. Not much will go down but better if nothing does.
