So do new ones, if you remember the recent post about a Honeywell stat....
 
If you are unsure run two separate twin and earths from the boiler to the stat and use a RTS4 stat

One twin will supply the stat (N & L terminals), from FCU, or 240V timeclock


and the other will supply the switching for the heating (1 & 3 terminals)

If the boiler is of a volt free (elv switching) you will have to use a separate box to connect the elv cores to the boiler stat terminals
