normal practice is to power the entire heating system of either a single FCU from the ring or its own breaker in the CU.

most thermostats provide volt free contacts (e.g. outputs are like a raw switch not connceted to the power supply in any way) to find out what you connect these to on the boiler you will need to read the boilers manual.

older room stats do require a neutral, best go for more "modern" one

a flat im re-wirein will have all new fittings and fixtures

so it will defently have a new thermostat

just need to find out weather it will need a feed but like plug said alot of the new ones now have volt free contact.

its a gas boiler

afaik most gas boilers have electricity supply, if only to relight the pilot after a power cut. Dont forget pump, controller, electronic valves, fanned flue etc.

i need to find out about the boiler which is getting isntalled so then..

see what power needs to be sent to it..

most only need it for the controls, so another fcu will be required

thanks breezer you defo been a good help today.

guess run the fcu within the ring and just pull a flex from that to the boiler.

regards

i would put the fcyu on a ring, but also put a socket there too (also on ring) it will bee handy for boiler engineer.

also most boilers have a "junction box" for the stat, and any motorised valves to be connected to, so yes an fcu with flex outlet will be fine

whats the idea of a boiler engineer need a socket outlet is this for his test equipment????

but with the flex i'll just enclose it within the wall and just come out where the boiler is

no, boiler engineer will need a vacuum cleaner, and you can put flex in a wall, you should at least know that by now

my kitchen aint that big i wont have to put in a specific socket for him..

I fort the socket might have been for test instruments or soemthing..

He/She can use another socket outlet in the kitchen..vacuums come with very long leads these days.

lol i know to put flex in the wall i was just saying.
