So boiler had this issue in November, had leak was fixed and now has new leak and is doing it again.

Its potterton promax he plus 15/2, and the leak is now from the flow switch. Topped up the water, and then when boiler switched on for top up warmth, it made loud bang/vibration when igniting. This has now stopped, and system working as normal, but once boiler has started up and got to tempreture, then switched off, the next time it fires up, it seems to fire up fine, then switch off multiply times (on for 7 seconds, then off, on for 7 seconds then off maybe 4 times) then suddenly it either stays alight or switches off.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a Combustion problem, which will need a Qualified gas engineer to attend to - when was the boiler last cleaned/serviced?

My Company operate a 30 day workmanship guarantee (separate from parts warranty) to cover such eventualities - get said GSR engineer back! ;)

Back, fixed second leak, then drained system completely.

Still making noise...he has said probably air still in system, and to check rads as some air will get in them as system flows. Also suggested putting a automatic air vent in as system is badly designed.

My question though is, how is the air in the water pipes affecting the ignition of the boiler in any way??? Not being a plumber this could be completely accurate, and other posts mention same thing, but want to be sure before putting hand in pocket again.
