Hello All

On page 11:
6. INSTALL THE PLASTIC VENT ASSEMBLY
It says "The inclusion of the vent pipe conforms to UK building regulations.Outside of the UK it may be removed, please check local byelaws.".

Could some kind person tell me why our UK standards are "higher" in this regard than our neighbouring countries? What are the implications (other than legal building regs ones) of ignoring and choosing the smaller vertical pipe assembly I wonder?

It says to check local bylaws to see if can be omitted. I don't know if, in reality, that would be many countries.

Hmmm yes. But what is it behind the regs? I mean why is the taller vent pipe superior ?
Maybe to give the steam time to form into water droplets. No idea to be honest.

But all it's saying is the vent pipe may be omitted outside of the UK if allowed. It will still release steam below the sink, therefore I think I prefer it to be connected to the wate pipe rather than not.

Interesting - thanks.

In all cases, the tundish is connected through to the waste pipe. The issue is whether or not there is a "long" pipe between waste and tundish. I think....As you say less likely to enter the 40mm waste as steam if first it goes through a vent pipe.

Also without a trap I'm not sure if that would bring in additional smells but can't be helped I suppose.

With quooker, you create a trap in the discharge hose by putting a loop in it.

IIRC latest quookers no longer need a tundish which is good because if a waste disposal unit is also fitted then crap always gets shot out of the tundish.

Quooker Europe did supply a non return device to prevent this but it was tricky to obtain one in the UK... Only a call to quooker and a sharp telephone rep led me to know of their existence.
