I'm looking to get some ferrule crimpers. I see there are two types, the ones with the individual sized dies like a normal ratchet crimper, and another type with one hole in the middle which are automatic and adjust to the size of the ferrule. Any recommendations what to go for?

Go for the ones with individual dies.

The ones with a single fit all hole in the middle do work but rely on springs and other mechanisms to decide when to stop squeezing the ferrule. Using a client's ( poorly cared for ) crimper ended up with over crimped ferrules and fragile wires that snapped where they entered the ferrule.

I used the type that has cartridges for each type of wire size, made it easier than picking up individual crimps etc.
