Boris caves in on fish

Was it more than a 3 year transition period that I seem to recall reading about?

the offer was a transition deal - not quite a caving. seems like a reasonable compromise.

like I always said he would.
That is a very tenuous 'caving in'.

A 3 year transition deal sounds entirely reasonable if it facilitates moving forward on the rest of the trade deal.

It's the beginnings of Brexit reality hitting home.

UK will never get fishing back.

Surely you're mistaken? We're already in the transition period, which ends in 91 days. Doris swore he would not accept an extension.

By now, we've presuably built all our border posts, recruited and trained the extra customs and immigration officers and border guards, built, tested and installed our new computer sysems, and agreed terms for our financial services sector and exports to the EU.

Haven't we?

What about Iceland? They don’t want to share their fish but the EU aren’t being all nasty to them are they?

Another red herring RW talking point. Fishing is more important to Iceland than it is to us - Fishing represents 0.25% of our GDP but for simple people its expresses more romantic notions. Bojo wants no controls over State Aid as he wants to spend on outlandish ideas pouring out of Cummings. RW support less Government intervention and less state aid. But if you slide the State Aid issue with Fishing, RW get hooked onto the issue of fishing and forget what the real objective is - State Aid.

So bearing in mind that the UK can only land 30% of the quote for British waters, if we regain control of all of our waters then we can increase that figure to 0.8% of GDP, which in turn means a 3 fold increase in the fish we can land and associated increased employment for the coastal towns and villages where fishing used to be a significant employer.

It's not about the fish it's about not letting another entity seize control of our sovereign waters, Frost has played a blinder, give a transitional period, do a deal on other areas and at the end of transition decide how much France and others will pay to fish in our waters and the extent of their catches.

But, you're right, fishing has and always will be a side issue (although not to the French), LPF and State aid is the main issue.
