Going back sometime last year, i posted on here about hot water problem (hot then cold). After some sound advice, i took out the sec. heat exchanger, cleaned and replaced - worked as good as new.
In the last month or two, the boiler fan began to rub and make a pinging noise, and deeper clanging noise when outside at discharge point from house (both have now stopped). The problem has come back with the hot water problem, but i am not sure if this is due to heat exchanger or fan?
Fairly often, after turning hot water tap off, the boiler bangs a few times, and locks out. In heating mode it appears to run ok, but a slight droning noise which i didn't seem to notice before.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

sounds like fans dying.

plate h/e may be full of crud again if you didn't clean out the system when changing it.

do you think i should clean exchanger again? or buy new one? Also wondering about installing de-scaler/conditioner on cold water into boiler - is this advised? how much would you say for new fan, heat/ex. and maybe even something to soften/de-scale water? (its a Bosch Worcester 280rsf)
Obviously family is growing, and want a cheap fix, but something thats gonna last!

i don't know how you cleaned the secondary h/e before. or whether there was a problem with the primary or secondary side.

it wouldn't hurt to take it out & check, as you've had it out before.

if it was the primary side, the heating system should be cleaned & inhibitor should be added. & it would be a good idea to fit a 'magnaclean'.
