I expected jointing compound to be like a paste, but this stuff is more like mashed up, soggy paper in consistency and it's difficult to spread and get to adhere to the outside of a pipe or olive in an even film. Is jointing compound normally like this? The tub says: "Apply BOSS SUPER GREEN over the male thread and ensure the thread is completely filled.". But most (who use compound) advocate applying it just around the olive, (and sometimes the pipe too), so I'm wondering if this is different stuff...

I think the ptfe-containing ones, like Virgin-White, Slic-tite and others are primarily intended for threads. I think they have flakes in which makes them odd- especially if they've had a chance to dry out in the pot. Swan-seal is a bit smoother.
I tried a couple on the olives on a place with 20 rads and forgot where I'd used which, but several pipes have gooey stuff running down the tails now the rads had been hot a while. Hard to get off, too.

The one PLumbcenter do , Jet Blue I think its called, sticks well. No teflon/ptfe in that though it's OK on gas threads. I just wish they'd put a brush in the lid - might even bolt something through the lid myself!

i bought a little pot of laco with the brush in use the flux then fill pot with jet blue worked for me cant stand getting the stuff on my hands :D
