Brexit innit

Friday night - is never a good time to need A&E. It seems some people like nothing more than getting p*ssed and having a fight with either the pavement or another participant. Hope you get fixed soon.

I didn't die, despite layers of incompetence from our "heroes".
Staff sitting about doing nothing, and not prepared to do much about simple things, everywhere. Insufficient seats in the waiting room, so I spent an hour on the floor of my 2.5 hours before triage. One guy was gasping and collapsing after an hour's wait; they did notice that.
The three triage bays were empty most of the time.
No water - they'd run out of cups by the dispenser.
Wife told them the home phone number they had was for 100 miles away. "Well you must have given it to us".
That was without leaving the waiting room.

My niggle was a thing I'd read about because it's not entirely new for me, so I asked a few questions. Doc seemed affronted that I knew some simple anatomy.
"Are you theatre?" !
They don't do tests they used to, because they "don't have the equipment" - namely an ultrasound scanner, in A & E. But they're cheap!
I asked if it could be X, and they said I'd be in pain. I WAS in pain. "Oh, we'll see how it goes."
"A u/s scanner would show, yes?" - No answer.
Long story short, it was Y not X but similar, and a u/s & Xray did show it, though I was out of it by then. The stitches come out in a week and yes it was 'necessary'. Really ought to make a will. They might be even more incompetent next time.
And NB to self, take own loo roll. Apparently it's not a nurse's job to deal with that.

I've had similar experiences to that when dealing with many different workplaces and organisations recently - since covid actually.

Covid, the lockdowns and the furloughs have given a lot of people an excuse to take it easy...and to blame Brexit.

Many interactions with the NHS these days are not pleasant, are they?

As Chomsky said:

There is a standard technique of privatisation:

. defund what you want to privatize
. make sure it doesn't work 'properly'
. people get angry
. hand it over to private capital

Complain. People don't change if they aren't told to.

I've had "You must have given it to us" regarding contact details in hospitals before.

I asked her why she was fixating on apportioning blame when she could have quite easily asked me what the right details were and entered them into the system.

For the record, the number they had was not similar to the correct one, nor was it an old number that had been changed. It was completely different. It wasn't my error.
