Hello

I have had a steel frame designed which will support a room above it — the room will be built directly on top of the steel frame (been designed as a steel beam to support inner blockwork, with a flange added to take the outer brickwork)
The frame itself is supported by steel columns sitting on concrete pad foundations.

Is it just a matter of bedding the brick and blockwork onto a mortar bed on top of the steel and then building up to roof level?

In my simple mind this seems insufficient or is it the fact that it is the weight of all the bricks and blocks and the roof on top bearing down onto the steel frame that will keep it all from falling down?!

Thanks
Geo

Pretty much other than fitting a cavity tray and tie wires when starting off.

Thanks, yes got cavity tray and wall ties on the architects drawings.

Just seems like it wouldn’t work (albeit to my untrained eye!)
