Brick wall behind cupboards, what would you do?

Hello

In my utility room I’ve pulled out some old cupboards and am hacking off the mix of 1960s wallpaper/tiles/crumbling plaster back to brick.

The plan is to put mostly tall units there which will leave a small gap at the top.

Is good practice to plaster or plasterboard it, and if so, which?

The lazy part of me is thinking I could just PVA it and put the cupboards in front. Or if it’s uneven, scratch coat it but not skim it (would have to get a pro in for the skim).

It’s an internal wall, backing on to a downstairs toilet. There is a radiator but otherwise it’s quite a cold room, which makes for good pantry type storage but I also want to avoid any potential for damp. Thanks.

If the plaster is crumbling, the cause is probably persistent damp.

Have you found the cause, so you can repair it? It may be a leak in the adjacent room.

The plaster had blown in parts, but not all. The room has never previously been heated and the house was empty for a while with no CH on. The bare brick is fine.

Insulated plasterboard , foam fix, quick and easy .
So just fill the joints and paint over?

Thanks Foxhole. I may end up getting it skimmed as I'll have other rooms to plaster down the line but I was thinking of getting this one done asap so I could get cupboards back in.

In the same room the exterior wall is sound around the window but it needs sorting where old plumbing has been. I was thinking to get back to brick then plasterboard that area then get the lot skimmed. The good wall is painted so should it be gritted first? If so what kind of grit? I thought blue was interior only, green can be used inside and out (and the reviews say it goes on easier than blue). Then there's a yellow grit which is a lot cheaper. What to choose?!
