I'd like to brick up a doorway which has almost no footings directly below it (to allow a toilet drain to pass through the wall). I've installed a prestressed concrete lintel at the bottom of the doorway that rests on the brick footings at either side. Bearings are 6" on left, 9" on right and span is 26" (66cm).
Old wooden door/frame/lintel will be replaced by bricks. The existing solid wall 9" thick to the left of the doorway will be removed to become a new doorway. A relocated drain will pass under the concrete lintel, nearer the right end than the left.
The house footings consist of one brick course that projects about 2" from wall with a bit of rubble underneath and that's it. There are two storeys with about 60 brick courses above the lintel. Will it be strong enough as is? Or do you think I need footings under more of the lintel?
