Bricks for house

My house was a one-off build in 1990- designed by local architect and built by small local builder.
I believe bricks are engineering or semi-engineering ( of normal brick colour).
Why should these have been used?

If so surely you were consulted in the process of brick selection?

Are any parts of the house interior below ground level ? The bricks you describe are resistant to frost damage so in an exposed situation they might improve protection against the elements. Having said that there are plenty of facing bricks that are simply as good as some engineering bricks.

There are loads of possible reasons including what they look like!
 
Thanks - I was not client, but a recent buyer.
Not underground , but in an exposed position.
